The geopolitical situation in our region poses serious challenges for states like Moldova, and joining the European Union will help preserve our sovereignty.
1news.media reports that these words were spoken by Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
“Another solution could be reunification with Romania, but at the moment this idea does not receive sufficient support,” the Moldovan president added.
He openly stated that in a possible referendum on this issue, he would vote for Moldova’s unification with Romania:
“If we were to hold a referendum, I would vote for unification with Romania. Look at what is happening around Moldova and in the world today. It is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive, to exist as a democratic state, a sovereign state. However, as the President of the Republic of Moldova, I understand that there is no majority supporting reunification with Romania; on the contrary, there is a majority supporting joining the EU, and we are working towards this goal. This is a more realistic goal and helps us preserve our sovereignty.”
He noted that the opportunity for unification was missed in the early 1990s.
