Burundi footballer dies on field in tragic talisman incident

A Burundian footballer has died after choking during a match.

1news.media informs that Igiraneza Eme Gerik, a midfielder for Le Gepard du Lack, fell ill during a game against Amasipiri.

According to reports, the player had placed a coin in his mouth as part of a local ritual, but the metal coin became lodged in his throat, blocking his airway.

Medical staff provided on-field assistance, but Gerik died en route to the hospital.

The federation has not yet disclosed the exact cause of death.
