Ukraine has used drones four times in the past few weeks against oil tankers belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet,” escalating the war at sea and showing that Ukrainian special services are increasingly carrying out bold attacks, as well as openly claiming responsibility for them.
1news.media reports, citing the New York Times.
The publication notes that one of the ships was hit by a UAV in the Mediterranean Sea, more than 1,900 kilometers from Ukraine, on Thursday night. The other three were attacked by naval drones in the Black Sea. These are the first attacks that Ukraine has acknowledged against Russian oil tankers that violate sanctions since Russia began its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
It was also reported that Russian oil production platforms in the Caspian Sea have been attacked four times in the past 10 days.
The NYT emphasized that with all these attacks, Ukraine has opened a "new front" for a peace agreement.
