Peace is being implemented on Azerbaijan's terms by fulfilling its demands. Recent statements by Baku and articles shared by Pashinyan confirm this.
1news.media reports that these thoughts were expressed by Armenian political commentator Suren Surenyants.
“The article was published under the title “Pashinyan's peace - on Azerbaijan's terms: Pashinyan accepted Baku's new demand”.
A representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizadeh, recently stated that the return of three villages of the Gazakh region and the village of Kerki in Nakhchivan has always been a priority for Baku.
According to him, this issue should be resolved within the framework of the border delimitation commissions”.
According to Surenyants, Azerbaijan does not hide that peace is possible only if all demands are fully met:
“Pashinyan, on the other hand, stated on his Telegram channel that as a result of delimitation, Armenia should return Bashkend and other “occupied territories”. However, this is not an attempt to return Bashkend, but to create the illusion of reciprocity.
The topic of Bashkend has never been on the agenda of negotiations (at least from the point of view of Azerbaijan), while the issue of enclaves has long been included in the list of Baku’s demands.
Thus, it can be concluded that Pashinyan has either already agreed or simply refused to resist”.
According to the expert, the return of the enclaves would be a disaster for Armenia in terms of security and institutional stability:
“Armenia had an alternative way:
- Exchange Bashkend for four enclaves,
- Or freeze the issue, that is, wait until confidence mechanisms are formed between Yerevan and Baku”.
According to Sureyants, such steps can be taken in line with state interests and without compromising sovereignty.
