Medieval tower collapses in Rome’s historic center

A medieval Italian tower partially collapsed while undergoing renovations in Rome, killing one worker and prompting authorities to investigate what happened.

1news.media citing The Washington Post, reports that emergency responders worked for hours to save the trapped worker after the Torre dei Conti, located less than a mile from the Colosseum, partially collapsed Monday morning.

The man, a Romanian national, died in a hospital after being pulled alive from the rubble.

“Despite the sustained efforts of the medical teams in Rome, Octav Stroici, who had been trapped under the rubble of a historic building undergoing restoration works, has sadly passed away,” Romania’s Foreign Ministry wrote on social media early Tuesday.

A second Romanian national was also injured in the collapse, the ministry added.
