Azerbaijan Railways joins Turkic States meeting in Bishkek

Nijat Guliyev, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, participated in the 3rd meeting of the heads of railway administrations of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, on October 30-31.

1news.media  reports that the meeting discussed issues arising from the Shusha Declaration adopted by the heads of TTS states in 2024 and the Gabala Declaration adopted in 2025, the development of multimodal transport on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the promotion and digitalization of railway, port, and transport and logistics operations, expanding the use of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, as well as the potential of the Zangezur corridor.

The current state of freight transportation by rail between TTS member states and the prospects for increasing freight volumes were also reviewed. In this context, views were exchanged on key areas such as tariff policy, infrastructure development, increasing the throughput capacity of border crossing points, and strengthening cooperation at the junctions of national railway networks.

The participants emphasized the need to take coordinated measures to increase the efficiency of transport operations and ensure the competitiveness of transit routes within the TDT region, and to create sustainable and uninterrupted transport chains throughout the region.

The meeting decided to further activate and strengthen the activities of the TDT working group on railways. It was noted that holding more regular meetings of this group would ensure the coordinated implementation of the adopted decisions and initiatives.
