The 6th trilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan kicked off in Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday.
Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, is representing his country in the high level moot.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister is accompanied by a Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, discussions are slated on enhancing cooperation between the three countries especially in trade, regional connectivity and counter terrorism domain. The Deputy Prime Minister will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan to discuss bilateral matters between both countries.
Previous meeting of the three foreign ministers was held in Beijing on May 21 soon after the India-Pakistan standoff. During the meeting the foreign ministers of Pakistan and China discussed the trilateral issues.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Kabul for talks. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to participate in a trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting with officials from Afghanistan and Pakistan, focusing on regional cooperation and diplomatic engagement.
The discussions are expected to cover progress on earlier commitments, including counter-terrorism cooperation, extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan, and strengthening regional trade and connectivity.
