Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrated in Baku

Under the theme of “United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia”, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Baku has held a series of events to commemorate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day in Baku, Azerbaijan. In this context, the Embassy held a Flag Hoisting Ceremony, that was led by Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Baku, Mrs. Merita Yenni, and was attended by Indonesian citizens and friends of Indonesia in Azerbaijan.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the national flag of Indonesia was hoisted by Indonesian students, who are currently studying in Azerbaijan, accompanied by the national anthem, Indonesia Raya. It was then continued with a moment of silence in remembrance of the heroes who had fought and sacrificed to achieve the independence of the Republic of Indonesia and followed by the reading of the text of Proclamation, Pancasila, and the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. The official part of the event, which concluded with a prayer, was continued by a cake cutting ceremony.

As part of the celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, the Embassy also held a fun games day on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, with the participation of several Indonesian citizens and friends of Indonesia in Azerbaijan. The winners of the games were officially announced at the end of the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and the organizing committee handed over prizes to all winners for adults and children’s categories.

To enliven the Independence Day celebration, various traditional Indonesian dishes and snacks were being served, namely sate ayam (chicken satay), soto ayam kampung (traditional chicken soup), wajik (sticky rice cake), and others.
