A Chinese mountaineer was tragically killed after being hit by falling rocks while descending from the summit of K2, the world's second-highest peak. According to the reports confirmed by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Chinese mountaineer Guan Jing died while she was on her way back to the Base Camp after scaling the K2 in Northern Pakistan.
The Chinese mountaineer’s death marked the third fatal accident during a month in Northern Pakistan. The incident occurred on the route between Camp I and Advanced Base Camp, a section notorious for frequent rock falls. The world's second largest mountain, K2 is located in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan
According to the officials, recovery efforts to retrieve her body are ongoing, while other climbers who also summited K2 that day are now returning safely to base camp. In total, more than 30 climbers reached the top of K2 on Monday.
Among the world's 14 highest mountains above 8,000 meters, five are located in Pakistan. As per the statement of Alpine Club of Pakistan, Guan Jing died while descending from the summit of 8,611-meter K2, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of the country. A German mountaineer Laura Dahlmeier and a Pakistani climber were killed in the same region on July 30 and on July 19 respectively.
