Aghdam hosts Vagif Poetry Days
On July 16, a poetry and music evening was held in the city of Aghdam as part of the Vagif Poetry Days, jointly organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.
The event was moderated by Ilgar Fahmi, Secretary of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.
Vasif Gurbanzade, head of department at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture, highlighted the significance of the event.
He said that National Leader Heydar Aliyev laid the foundation for these events in 1982 in Shusha. At that time, Vagif’s mausoleum and the Poetry House were inaugurated with his participation, and the decision to establish the poetry days was made. Until 1991, the festival traditionally started in Gazakh, the poet’s homeland, and concluded in the city of Shusha, the cradle of Azerbaijani culture. Following the liberation of the city by the victorious Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the poetry days returned to their birthplace - the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
Poets Sabir Mammadov, Yusif Milletoglu, Nadir Gadimli, and Zahid Avshar spoke about Molla Panah Vagif’s creativity, reciting verses by the renowned Azerbaijani poet.
The event also featured a concert program by the academic staff of the Aghdam Musical College.
The Vagif Poetry Days will conclude in Shusha, the capital of Azerbaijani culture.
