Azerbaijani delegation joins UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s 47th session
An Azerbaijani delegation, comprising members of the Reserves Management Center of the State Tourism Agency, attended the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held from July 6 to 16 in Paris, France.
The session reviewed and adopted periodic reports on the state of conservation of two Azerbaijani sites included on the World Heritage List - namely, the Historic Centre of Shaki with the Khan’s Palace and the Cultural Landscape of Khinalig People and the “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route.
A side event on transhumance, organized by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), was also held during the session.
The event featured a presentation on the “Transhumance World Heritage Initiative” project, supported by Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency.
Inspired by the Cultural Landscape of Khinalig People and the “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route - inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023 - the initiative aims to preserve and promote transhumance heritage globally.
On the sidelines of the session, the Azerbaijani delegation held bilateral meetings and participated in panel discussions.
