British Trade Envoy: There is significant potential for cooperation with Azerbaijan in trade and investment
In an exclusive interview with1news.media the UK’s Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan and Central Asia, House of Lords member Lord John Alderdice, emphasized the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries in trade and investment. He highlighted that collaboration could particularly expand in the fields of transportation, healthcare, and education.
Lord Alderdice noted that the UK and Azerbaijan have already begun cooperation in areas such as energy and mineral resource extraction. According to him, infrastructure development is also crucial in these sectors: “It’s not just about extraction but also the need for railways and other transport infrastructure to facilitate the transportation of these resources.”The envoy added that cooperation in natural resources also stimulates the development of higher education and expertise: “University collaborations, which were previously limited, are now intensifying. I am very pleased about this.”He stated that healthcare is another key area for partnership. Lord Alderdice pointed out opportunities for cooperation in medical training and hospital infrastructure development, noting that sharing the expertise of British specialists and enabling Azerbaijani students to study in the UK would contribute to human resource development in both countries.
According to the trade envoy, international platforms play a vital role in establishing such partnerships. He emphasized that organizations like the Caspian Policy Center bring together participants from various countries, fostering long-term business relationships: “It is important to hold such events not only in London but also in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.”
Lord Alderdice also mentioned plans for new investments in Azerbaijan: “In addition to supporting companies currently operating in Azerbaijan, I am working to ensure other British companies become aware of the opportunities there. Many are still unaware of these possibilities, and I take it upon myself to address this.”
He revealed plans to visit Azerbaijan in the coming months: “I have been to your country before, but this will be my first visit in this role. A trip to Kazakhstan is also planned for the autumn months."
