Russia’s law enforcement cruelty against our compatriots cannot be justified under any circumstances – COMMENTARY
“The brutal killing and injury of our compatriots in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk oblast, due to violence and torture is a gross violation of human rights. The cruel actions of Russian law enforcement against our compatriots cannot be justified under any circumstances. Such aggressive and racist behavior deals a blow to relations between Baku and Moscow,” said Nigar Mammadova, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, in a statement to 1news.media
“The cancellation of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk’s planned visit to Azerbaijan this month in response to the violence against Azerbaijanis demonstrates that the Azerbaijani government sees no value in hosting Overchuk or other officials under the current circumstances. Generally, certain forces in Russia cannot conceal their unwarranted anger and bias toward Azerbaijan. We observe this periodically in Russian media and in the statements of some Russian experts who express disgust on various platforms. Certain aggressive circles frequently raise claims about expelling Azerbaijanis from the country. However, like Azerbaijanis worldwide, those living in Russia have never adopted a destructive stance. On the contrary, they respect the laws and national-cultural values of the country they reside in and do not make territorial claims against their host country, unlike some ethnic groups.
Azerbaijan expects a thorough, objective, and transparent investigation of the incident, with those responsible held accountable and legal and psychological support provided to the affected families. The issue must be given a fair legal assessment,” Mammadova emphasized.
