UN Chief, Pakistan welcome ceasefire between Iran and Israel; Call on relevant parties to uphold it
Pakistan has welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire understanding between Iran and Israel, urging all relevant parties to uphold the agreement. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Pakistan also welcomes and supports efforts aimed at reviving dialogue and diplomacy in the region.
The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan believes peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through strict adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and by refraining from the use of force. Pakistan will continue to support all efforts in this regard.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, as announced by US President Donald Trump. In a social media post, the UN chief urged both countries to fully respect the ceasefire.
António Guterres expressed hope that the ceasefire "can be replicated in other conflicts in the region." He stated, "The fighting must stop. The people of both countries have already suffered too much," adding that it was his "sincere hope" the ceasefire could extend to other parts of the region.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, has lauded Pakistan's proactive and constructive role at various diplomatic forums, including the United Nations Security Council, in seeking a peaceful settlement of the regional security situation through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Chinese ambassador met with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the regional security situation, particularly the recent developments in the Iran-Israel conflict, along with other bilateral issues.
