US seeks to omit Crimea references in UN vote
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has advocated for removing references in a UN resolution that affirm Ukraine’s territorial integrity and condemn Russia’s occupation of Crimea and other regions.
1news.media reports, citing sources at the UN reported by the Kyiv Post, that the annual resolution submitted by Ukraine to the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee—titled “Human Rights Situation in Ukraine’s Temporarily Occupied Territories, including Crimea and the City of Sevastopol”—has long been an important diplomatic tool.
In December of last year, the United States, along with 77 countries, voted in favor of the resolution. Now, Washington is reportedly seeking to remove references to Russia’s occupation of Crimea and the deterioration of human rights in the occupied territories.
