It was stated at the statement of Lu Mei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
1news.media presents the statement: “The 2025 SCO Summit will be held in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1. This will be the largest Summit since the establishment of the SCO, where over 20 national leaders and heads of 10 international organizations are expected to attend related activities. The SCO serves as an important regional cooperation platform for countries to safeguard security and stability while seeking common development. In the context of the expedited global evolution of changes unseen in a century, there is an urgent need for the SCO to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, pursue reform and innovation, and better align with the historical trends of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit. Therefore, this summit will exchange views on advocating the “Shanghai Spirit,” practicing multilateralism, facilitating sustainable development, and addressing significant international and regional issues, to collaboratively map out a blueprint for the SCO’s development.
The Republic of Azerbaijan became a dialogue partner of the SCO in 2016, being an important member of the SCO family. China and Azerbaijan closely worked together within the SCO. Azerbaijan strongly supports the Chinese presidency and has sent high-level representatives to various activities hosted by China, including the SCO Political Parties Forum, the SCO Energy Ministers Meeting, the SCO Forum on People-to-People Friendship and Forum on Friendship Cities, and the Green Development Forum of SCO Countries.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The Chinese government will hold commemorative activities in Beijing on September 3, themed “Remember History, Honour the Fallen, Cherish Peace and Strive for a Better Future.” Eighty years ago, the Chinese people achieved a miraculous victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression after a grueling 14 years of bloody struggle, making significant contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Eighty years ago, the international community learned profound lessons from World War II and established a post-war international order centered around the United Nations (UN) and based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, which has played a vital role in sustaining world peace and stability.
Now, Eighty years later, we must take history as a lesson, learn from the past, and steadfastly stand by the achievements of World War II, while firmly defending world peace. We should revisit the founding principles of the UN, adhere to the universally accepted basic norms governing international relations, and resolutely safeguard the international system centered around the UN and the international order based on international law. We need to enhance solidarity and cooperation among peoples of all nations, facilitate the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, and advance the noble cause of human peace and development.
Both China and Azerbaijan have made indelible contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, and both are backbone in preserving multilateralism and international equity and justice. History has shown that the more turbulent the international situation becomes, the more imperative it is for China and Azerbaijan to consolidate unity and cooperation, setting an example of equal benefit and win-win international relations, thereby infusing the world with greater stability and positive energy. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to China for the SCO Tianjin Summit and the commemorative activities marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is his second trip to China this year. This will inject strong momentum into the cooperation across various fields between China and Azerbaijan, adding new dimensions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. China stands ready to work with Azerbaijan to effectively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, reap more mutually beneficial cooperation outcomes, and contribute further to maintaining international equity and justice as well as promoting world peace and development."
